Memorial Day Weekend . . . Last Year

Last year, my son and I got tickets to a Red Sox-Yankees game in Yankee stadium on Memorial Day weekend. This was his 4th Red Sox game, but the first time for either of us in Yankee Stadium.

We had seats in the third row about ten feet from the Sox dugout looking straight down the right field line. We were sitting near the Vice Chairman of the Red Sox who was showing off his 2004 World Series Championship ring.

One complaint about the seats . . . sometimes the on-deck man got in the way!

Manny is warming up here with Big Papi at the plate.

At some point, Manny fouled one off in front of the Sox dugout. The ballboy tossed it to the seat attendant who gave it to my son. . .

. . . and the Sox beat the Yanks 7-2!

I wish I had their jobs . . .

My son at the helm of his Opti in the PYC Junior program where he will be for 6 weeks this summer. I really wish I had his job.

He will be joined this year by his sister who is also going to be on the H.O.T. girls racing team on Tuesday evenings. How cool is that?

My son and I plan on sailings 420s on Tuesday nights, which . . . I don't know if that's as cool as being a H.O.T. girl . . . Probably not.

Meet the Crew of Flying Circus

Meg -- Sailing partner . . . and life partner . . .

It's not true that husband and wife can't get along on board a sailing vessel . . . except when I yell at her.

Scott -- Can't see his face too well here . . . but, well, you get the picture.

Erin -- A sophomore on Flying Circus and at Smith College. . . has probably been caught misbehaving in this picture.

Laurie -- New to Flying Circus but has been around the block and is a H.O.T. girl. (I am speaking strictly about sailing here, mind you. She owns her own boat, an Etchells, called Hooked On Tonics.)

What's all this then?

I thought I'd try this medium out as a way to communicate with friends, family and crew members. Mostly it will be about sailing. I'm going to try to chronicle racing and cruising adventures on my boat (Flying Circus, a J24), my trip to Bermuda and other racing on Gold Digger (a J44) and other mostly sailing related adventures.

Flying Circus, with the cool pink, blue, green spinnaker, is pictured above competing in a Wednesday night race.
